When setting up spoken alerts, the volume slider will not retain my preference. It can keep the maxxed out loudest setting between edits, but any other position (softened to 3/4, 1/2, 1/3) always results in the volume slider moved to off (far left).
I don't think this is the behavior to be expected, and it makes for a VERY quiet alert :) or very LOUD (the volume control in Simon bypasses the system sound volume setting in Tiger 10.4.11 on a powerpc).
Thoughts?

Re: Volume slider controls for spoken alerts
Ah, yes — that is a bug. Interesting that it hadn't been reported before this... I guess most people leave it at maximum. The maximum volume is the system volume level; it shouldn't be louder than the system beep volume.
I'll fix this for the upcoming 2.4 release. Thanks for the bug report!
So it is.
I just tested. Yes, it is relative to the system volume. Just louder than I expected.
That's probably a good thing in a server room.

Fixed for version 2.4b2.
