Thanks for the quick response!

what I meant was if I want to use Narrator to read/record text to an audio file and I want to have pauses in the speech of various length? Like longer duration between sentences, greater duration between when one character stops speaking and another one starts, longer comma pauses, very short pauses to change word emphasis in a sentence. . . things like that.

Ah, I see.

Yes, you can insert a character based on the "Silent (skip over)" actor. The Rate slider can be used to set the duration of the delay.
