Breaks grayed out- can't take breaks

A few days ago, Timeout stopped taking breaks.

If I select the menu button, I see that all the break options are grayed out.

I've tried rebooting my computer and everything, but to no avail.

Re: Breaks grayed out- can't take breaks

The first thing I'd suggest is checking your Time Out preferences. Perhaps the checkbox to enable each kind of break was accidentally turned off?

Nope, Normal and Micro timeouts are both enabled...

Then the next thing I'd suggest is to look at the schedule log.

Enter the following command in Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities):

defaults write com.dejal.timeout DebugScheduler YES

(If you're using Time Out Free, enter com.dejal.timeout.free instead of com.dejal.timeout.)

Then you can see the logging in Console (also in the Utilities folder). If that doesn't make sense to you, paste in the log entries after manually starting a break for me to analyze.

Re: Breaks grayed out- can't take breaks

Here are some log entries. I did have one timeout break trigger yesterday, for the first time in weeks. I have no idea why it triggered and when I tried taking a manual break, nothing happened

Re: Breaks grayed out- can't take breaks

The logs basically repeat those lines over and over, except there is this entry here:

11/24/14 9:44:38.726 AM Time Out[186]: Micro break due now
11/24/14 9:44:38.727 AM Time Out[186]: Idle 0.1 secs; normal due 11/24/14, 10:10 AM, micro due 11/24/14, 9:44 AM
11/24/14 9:44:38.727 AM Time Out[186]: ...not yet idle for at least a minute
11/24/14 9:44:38.774 AM Time Out[186]: ... normal due in 1535 secs; micro duration is 334 secs; safe for micro: yes
11/24/14 9:44:38.774 AM Time Out[186]: Skipping micro break, as not wanted, currently in a break, or not ready
11/24/14 9:44:38.775 AM Time Out[186]: Rescheduled micro break for 600 seconds; next due at 11/24/14, 9:54 AM

Re: Breaks grayed out- can't take breaks

That's odd. As the log says, it skips because it's not wanted, in a break, or not ready:

11/24/14 9:44:38.774 AM Time Out[186]: Skipping micro break, as not wanted, currently in a break, or not ready

But I don't know which of those is the cause, and why.

If you're on Yosemite now, you could try using Time Out 2. I've just given you access to the Time Out Testers forum, where you can download the latest alpha. Enable the scheduler logging option in the debug menu and see if it works any better.

Hm... okay. I'm still on Mavericks, but when I get my new mac I'll give it a try!
