Introducing Simon 5!

Simon version 5 is now available. It is a massive update, introducing a much-requested feature: syncing the Simon data between multiple Macs, plus a Simon Status service, a Link Checker filter, improved Find filter, iMessage and Speak Error notifiers, a new app icon, and much more.

Important: please note that Simon 5 requires a minimum of macOS 10.12 (Sierra), and is a paid upgrade from Simon 4. Purchasers since September 1, 2020 automatically get a version 5 license (that also works in previous versions).

Using dropbox to share Simon configs between machines?

Hi,

I have specified my "data folder location" to be in my dropbox folder

The configs seem to be being shared between machines, in that the files are being updated.

However the Simon app does not seem to pickup these changes.

Any tips/thoughts on whether this should work, or how to make it work or whether v3 does it better?

Thanks,
Chris

Re: Using dropbox to share Simon configs between machines?

I recommend against this approach, as Simon can only update the data for one instance at a time. So if you have Simon running on two machines, using the same data folder, they will be overwriting each others files. At best, your changes wouldn't be remembered for one of them; at worst, the data could become corrupted.

Version 3 doesn't change this situation (yet), though I am thinking about ways to share data between multiple machines.

Hi,

Thanks for the blindingly fast reply :)

Will separate the folders then.
